I am interested in establishing a Visual Arts Booster Club at our school and am encouraged that several art club parents have stepped up to volunteer on a committee. We will need more parents on board as move forward, but most important, if you know of, or perhaps are a parent who is an accountant, a tax attorney or has experience in the area of incorporation and is willing to volunteer your assistance, please contact me!
The main reason many schools have booster clubs in place, like the Athletics Booster for example, is to be able to fundraise legitimately and more securely. In the past, our art club has partnered with our PTA as well as relied on generous donations from art club parents like you who have made it possible for us to operate as an effective and successful extracurricular club.
Parents and I have discussed the advantages of applying for tax-exempt status in the past. For example, we could independently raise money for all types of needs, whether it be for art elective consumable supplies, to monetarily give back to our PTA or other school programs, or to advocate for our students by helping them afford art supplies, contest entrance fees, admission fees, field trips or student travel opportunities -- like my upcoming EF Tour in April 2020.
I will be researching how to begin this process, talking to veteran teachers and booster club parents from different schools, drafting a mission and vision as well as an overall proposal to present to our school's administration. I look forward to posting my progress on this new webpage!
Thank you parents in advance for considering supporting our visual arts program in this capacity. Just let me know if I may add your name to our committee list.
Best Regards,
Beth Barlow
