What Lufkin Visual Art is all about
Beth Barlow is excited to be a part of the team at Lufkin Middle School since arriving in 2013. With close to two decades of experience teaching art at all grade levels, she is passionate not only about creating art but helping students discover their unique gifts through artistic expression.
A native of Raleigh, Mrs. Barlow graduated from the College of Design at NC State and enjoyed a career as a corporate graphic designer. However, she developed an interest in trading 15 years of design deadlines for a class full of pencils, pastels, paint brushes and students.
“I bring to the classroom a 21st century component – what it’s like to be employed successfully in an art field. I attribute my desire to encourage individuality as well as my interest in promoting art in the community to my design background.” Beyond all the fine art they exhibit, she and her art students set out to offer creative designs to real-life clients. “I believe service within our school walls is a perfect place to start since students get to see the impact of their artwork in their daily surroundings. Extending ourselves beyond the walls of our school is a life lesson in giving back to our community. The art club students are excited to be working on projects with several organizations. If you become aware of a potential art project idea or know of a local business that we can serve, we’ll consider partnering since it’s a win-win situation.”
