If I become a member, what is available to me? Becoming a member allows you to attend in-person art club meetings and participate in collaborative projects. The Art Club Website has up-to-date announcements and posts such as: invitations to our latest events, call-for-entries in current virtual art contests, student group interest collaborative boards, and special service project opportunities just for art club members.
If I was an art club member at Lufkin before, do I need to sign up again?
Yes. We have a Fall and a Spring Club. I need to know which one you prefer, and if you are flexible. Please visit this art club website often for updates as well as the final membership list and meeting schedule.
If I was a member before and an 8th-grader this year, may I sign up for year-round membership?
If you are interested in this "senior privilege," there is a place in the enrollment form to check this option. I am able to accommodate a year-round 8th-grade group this upcoming school year!
Will we have presenters and visitors this year?
Yes! One of the benefits of Art Club here at Lufkin is working with our community. If your family knows someone in an art-related field or a career of interest that might be interested in sharing an afternoon with us, please contact me at [email protected]. In addition, if you know of an area business or organization that might be interested in partnering with our club, let me know!

Service Projects: We Love Them!
Art Club Members are so awesome when it comes to giving of their time and artistic talents to provide a service and inspire us all! Among these are pictured left, Aubrey S, Reive H and David M (all 6-1); and pictured right, Claire A(8-4) and Hope M (6-2) who recently created a seasonal bulletin board for visitors of our school health room to enjoy.
Our art program appreciates School Nurse Tammy McGugan for presenting this service project opportunity to our art club members. A shout-out also goes to Lufkin's Athletic Director Coach Behrend for requesting student artists to create the "break-through" football banner (pictured below). If you know of a need in our school or community, please let Mrs. Barlow know:)

ART CLUB Members Call for Entries
In addition to attending art club meetings and perhaps an art elective this year, I hope you are producing Art At Home - I encourage you to share pieces that you are working on and upload them to your Artsonia Portfolio and our Student Artsonia Art Gallery Space (see Artsonia page for more info). Please take a look to see if your friends have been creating at home!
Another incentive to send me any pieces you produce in your time at home is that I am looking for entries for art contests. One is called PTA Reflections that is due by October. This is a wonderful opportunity to share art with me so I can submit your piece into a contest where you can earn recognition, including award ribbons, certificates and monetary prizes. [email protected]

LRMS Art Club Team sets A table at City Barbecue
Over holiday break, the LRMS Art Club partnered with City Barbecue to create a permanent Lufkin table for the restaurant. Mrs. Barlow, Lufkin’s art club advisor, and Mrs. White, City Barbeque’s marketing director, teamed up on this win-win opportunity to promote the arts in our community. Lufkin Road Middle is the first school to be represented in this way at the popular Cary venue.
“Our art club students were up bright and early on their day off ready to make this real-life client project a successful one. It says so much about their commitment to serve together as ambassadors for our school,” says Mrs. Barlow.
This is not the first time City Barbecue has worked with Lufkin; the restaurant has also hosted fundraiser evenings in collaboration with our PTA.

Spring Art Club Teams hit the ground Running
Two former LRMS art students, Allie and Morgan (3rd and 4th students from right) were able to take advantage of their flexible Apex Friendship High School exam week to come out and talk about the differences between the middle school and high school experience with art club members. We appreciate their visit to answer questions from students about what to expect and how best to prepare for high school. Allie and Morgan have positive things to say about their first high school semester and urged students to get involved in school clubs, like art club, performing arts, athletics and community service.

First Art Club Workshop 2018-19!
Thank you Ms. Kaetz for hosting a card-making workshop on September 20th at our Track 3 Art Club meeting. This is Ms. Kaetz' second visit to our art room, and we are thrilled when we see her arrive with all of her seemingly-endless paper-craft materials and tools for us to create seasonal, one-of-a-kind cards we take home.
She plans on returning to share with our Track 1 group sometime before the holidays!

2018 Visiting Artist Series Interests Budding Artists
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. That is why Mrs. Barlow believes that so many of our art club members' parents specialize in various art forms -- whether he or she is a professional artist or a small art-related business owner. "One of the most exciting opportunities to come out of this new year has been partnering with my art club parents who are more than receptive to the idea of coming to Lufkin to share real-world art experiences through hands-on art workshops," says Barlow. "I have been blown away by their willingness to take time out of their busy schedules to inspire and connect with our art students."

Art Club Students take advantage of the activity bus
Some art students have asked about using the activity bus as a means to return home after Art Club meetings on Thursdays. Please be aware that you should arrange this transportation ahead of time with Mrs. Barlow and your parents. This is a great opportunity for many students who do not have a ride home to attend Art Club should one of the bus stops work for you and your family. You do not have to fill out a transportation request to ride one of the two activity buses home -- just simply get on the bus that is scheduled for your prearranged stop.
Activity Bus Information
The after school activity bus routes are now posted on Lufkin's transportation page with stop information:

About Art Club
Our Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Lufkin Road Middle School Art Club that by creating art together we will support our school and community. One of our main goals is to learn about art and how it influences, and is influenced by, the world around us. We shall strive to partner with local businesses that offer us an opportunity to provide real-life design solutions and exhibit our artwork. As a result, we intend for our community to benefit from what we have created and hope that our club’s actions will have long-lasting effects. We wish to improve our school, as well as to maintain its positive atmosphere.
Our objective as members is to gain knowledge about art so we can improve our skills, and so we can develop an even greater interest and appreciation for the subject. Most importantly, we would like to spread these ideas to promote the enjoyment of art to other club members and to society. The Lufkin Road Middle School Art Club aims to use our artistic abilities to make a difference.
