PTA Reflections Art Contest Deadline: Due at Lufkin by October 4
Our Lufkin PTA Reflections Chair is offering this opportunity to ALL Lufkin students. So if you have a friend that is not in art club, please encourage him or her to enter too. Check out the student packet with the official rules at the NC PTA Reflections website at:
https://ncpta.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/1920-Student-Entry-Packet.pdf
You will need to complete an entry form, which includes an artist statement no longer than 100 words that describes your work and how it relates to the theme. The statement is such an important part of your entry, so take time to articulate your explanation and have someone proofread behind you. Your parent/guardian must sign your entry form, and make sure to turn it in with your project.
As an art club student, please consider creating a visual art entry which may be a painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed-media piece, 3-dimensional work, etc. Two-dimensional work is limited to a maximum size of 24” x 30”.
Create a piece of artwork that expresses what “Look Within” means to you.
To enter the contest, turn in your project at school by October 4. Three-dimensional works must be photographed from 3 different angles. Judging takes place at Lufkin in October and 14 final pieces will go on to compete in the Wake County District PTA Reflections Art Contest. However, every Lufkin participant will be recognized and invited to a special celebration on campus.
You can also check out NC PTA Reflections website to see past state visual art winning pieces.
Contact Ms. Barlow at [email protected] if you have any further questions.
Lions Club Peace Poster Contest Deadline: Due at Lufkin by October 11
The Cary Lions Club has graciously offered to sponsor this contest at Lufkin Road Middle School! This contest is only open to students who will be 11, 12 or 13 years of age on November 15, 2019. I am sending this call of entries to all my 2019-20 art club members since I believe you can be potential winners for sure! Your response to my challenge will affect our future partnership with Cary Lions Club!
The contest theme is “Journey of Peace.” Creatively express what peace means to you. Share your unique image of peace with others so that we may all have greater tolerance and global understanding. History has shown that all too often peace is not guaranteed. While this is unfortunate, it also allows us the powerful opportunity to figure out how to achieve peace, individually and in our communities. And who better to map out the “Journey of Peace” than you?
Restrictions include:
1. Only one entry per student, and each entry must be the work of only one student.
2. Minimum size of 13” x 20”, and maximum size of 20” x 24.”
3. Artwork must be 2-dimensional. Nothing may be glued, stapled or attached to the artwork.
4. Write your name on the back of your artwork in pencil, along with your grade and track. Avoid including words on the front of the poster.
5. Only originals are accepted, no duplicates. Photograph your work for your records. Artwork will not be returned.
