I am thrilled to announce an Apex Town Hall Art Show, featuring Lufkin Road Middle School student artworks. The show runs from March 1 until May 31, 2022, open to the public on weekdays from 8am until 5pm. Don’t miss your chance to experience this exciting art installation in the spacious town hall lobby.
The Town of Apex is graciously hosting a student artist reception at Town Hall on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 exclusively to celebrate participating Lufkin artists with their families from 4:45 - 5:45pm in the town hall lobby. The Town staff scheduled it ahead of their regular board meeting so all distinguished town representatives may congratulate you and the other Lufkin student artists whose artwork was selected to be showcased. So drop in between 4:45pm – 5:45pm if you can to mingle with all our artists and community leaders, enjoy refreshments, and view a variety of media – from film to barn quilts, drawings and paper-mache masks. Lufkin is excited to partner with the Town of Apex to promote the arts in our community. Don’t miss the Common Threads Student Art Exhibit in the lobby of Apex High School in conjunction with the Common Threads Choral Performance on Thursday, November 7 at 7pm in the AHS auditorium. Lufkin will be represented not only by our fabulous choral groups, led by Mr. Fox, but also our talented student artists! Go out and support our school performers during this unique collaboration of area school choral programs.
The Kerr Scott Building is bursting with student art from all over the state, and Lufkin is in the house! Check our entries and congratulate those students when you see them at school:) The fair runs from Thursday, October 17 - Sunday, October 27. Take a pic of our artwork and share with me at [email protected]. #lufkinartgoesplaces
On a Monday evening, Ms. Barlow and Kailyn Becker attended the Cary Lions Club May meeting to present "Community Matters," a series of slides that communicated the significance of Lufkin's visual art's partnership with Lions International.
Thanks to Lufkin parent and Lion Doug Sheppard, a conversation about a joint project with Ms. Barlow became so much more! Over the course of a few months, 13 Lufkin art students participated in the Lions Club Peace Poster Contest and several placed to win monetary awards presented by Cary Lions Club Officers Ed and Becky Burt. One entry was selected to represent the Cary Lions Club in the international contest. Kailyn Becker(8-3) not only went on to win at the district level but at the state level as well! At the meeting, Ms. Barlow expressed her belief that initial Lions' poster project and their members' encouragement was a factor in creating excitement and the incentive needed for several Lufkin students to continue to participate in other contest opportunities throughout the year. In the 2018-19 school year alone, Lufkin art students participated and won a significant number of awards in more than a dozen local, district, state and national contests! It has been a banner year for Lufkin Art in 2019 for sure. #communitymatters Pictured above, Sammy Albertin (8-2) and Kailyn Becker (8-3) wait in the audience at Garner Magnet High School to be called up on stage to receive their awards for visual art submissions to the Wake County PTA Reflections Art Contest.
Making It Happen: Our PTA Reflections Chair Robin Kinney From 48 student entries at Lufkin, art judges brought in by LRMS Reflection Chair Robin Kinney selected the maximum 14 pieces to advance on to district judging. Ms. Kinney uploaded all submissions and coordinated Lufkin's participation in the district celebration. In fact, she is hosting a celebration on Wednesday, March 27, from 8:15 until 8:50am for all Lufkin students who participated in submitting projects this year. Parents are welcome to drop in for this special event to see students receive PTA Reflections certificates. Four Lufkin entries place at the county level Sammy and Kailyn's visual arts pieces, Christina Maggio's (8-4) photograph and one of Delaney Atwood's (8-3) literature pieces were showcased at district. Delaney's literature entry wins first place Delaney Atwood is not only a Wake County winner, but her literature piece, "September 11, 2001: The Flight That Never Arrived" won first in the State Contest and has advanced to the PTA Reflections National Competition! To view Delaney's reading of her winning piece at the district event, go to the link below. Best wishes Delaney on winning in Nationals! https://youtu.be/IRKoy9eWXBs Nikki Cartwright and her family visited Cary Community Library on Academy Street over the weekend to see her and her classmates' paintings in an 18-piece Lufkin art exhibit that runs until February 11. The LRMS visual art program partners with Cary Community Library every year to showcase our talented students' art work. Don't miss it! Apex Friendship High and Lufkin Road Middle Choral students came together to present to a packed auditorium a touching program about Peace on Wednesday evening, November 7th. The Peace Choral Program was the perfect backdrop for several LRMS art club members' entries for the Cary Lions Club Peace Poster Contest. Pictured above left, at the event is our art exhibit presented by Rachel Ward, a former Lufkin art student. Pictured above right is Mr. Fox after the show, along with LRMS choral student and art club member Sammy and her mom, Ms. Albertin.
Lufkin art students are busy indeed throughout the year! Art elective students and art club members make a difference in our community by sharing their talents, exhibiting their art work and representing our school at different venues.
Our students partner with parents and staff to roll out Lufkin's annual Spooky Walk, which not only entertains a significant crowd from our school population but draws many community stakeholders to our school for an evening of thrills. Another annual event that promotes Lufkin in our community on a much larger scale is the NC State Fair Student Art Exhibit at the Kerr Scott Building. Lufkin is among a significant number of schools in our state that showcases their students' artistic talent. We are fortunate at Lufkin to have an active PTA that supports the Reflections Contest in order that all of our students have an opportunity to participate. This is our 3rd consecutive year in which our school will host judges in the Fall who narrow the submissions to 12 for the district competition held in the Spring. Other visual art shows in which Lufkin participates includes showcasing our student art at the Cary Community Library and the WCPSS Crossroads I building throughout the year, the Gifts of Gold Contest in March and the Kaleidoscope Art Show at the Cary Mall in April. |
