Dear Parents of Art Club Participants,
Thank you for arranging your schedule so your child can attend art club meetings! As we had our initial meeting last Thursday, the students as a group made many decisions about how business will be conducted and we will have members appointed to take attendance, keep time and several secretaries (different tracks) to help us stay organized.
First, we made a change: pick up is at the bus loop instead of carpool from now on. Since I’m new to Lufkin, I now realize this is probably more convenient for all of us.
Second, it is not mandatory for a student to attend any of the Art Club Meetings while he or she is tracked out. However, if the member knows they will not be attending any other time, please send me an email, note or leave a message.
The students discussed that if a member has to miss more than 5 meetings, they probably need to consider resignation from the club. Furthermore they agreed that if someone chooses not to attend two or more meetings while on a design team, the team has the right to drop them. Frankly with the manpower that we have, I don’t see many long term projects. But I understand their point – that if a few are “doing all of the work and someone comes in at the last meeting and takes credit, that might not be fair”. The returning member may join another team since we will have many consecutive/overlapping opportunities to serveJ
Instead of club dues for membership, our students decided that a “wish list” for supplies that we need will be sent out to art club parents. That way, if you are able to support us by purchasing supplies, sending a donation, providing recycled materials on our wish list or even volunteering your time to help us – we need and welcome your support.
As well, students preferred to bring in snacks that we can store here at school for Art Club only. This is also a volunteer request, so bottled waters and packaged foods like pretzels, granola bars and crackers will work. Please make sure that students with allergies bring their own snack or know exactly what they may eat. (I told them not to make it Doritos and Twinkies every week!)
Our next meeting is this Thursday, August 29 from 2:15-3:15. I am in the process of creating an Art Club link to our school site as well. Thank you for your patience! Please don’t hesitate to email [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns until then. Thanks again for all of your interest and support,
