Thank you to LRMS PTA, PTA volunteers, and our PTA Reflections Chair Stephanie Atwell for hosting and coordinating our 2021-22 Reflections Art Contest Participants Recognition Breakfast on Friday, April 8th! Lufkin had over 32 entries and student artist participants this year, along with 3 district winners: Tessa Langaker, Hope Moyer and Chris Woloszyn. This was a fabulous time for us to celebrate our talented art students!
Congratulations to the winners of the 2019-20 PTA Reflections Contest! These winning student projects will move on to represent Lufkin in the district competition. It was a very challenging job for art judges this year since many artworks’ ratings were mere points away from being included among the 14 winning entries.
The 48 Lufkin students who submitted a contest entry this year will be recognized at our annual Lufkin PTA Reflections Celebration in the Spring! You are all winners and represent our school well. "I am so excited that so many Lufkin families and solo student travelers are interested in joining me and, notably, our dedicated Chaperones and Lufkin Faculty --Ms. Lisa Fleming, Mr. Marcus Mitchell, Ms. Anita Otey and Ms. Elizabeth Raffensperger!"
As of mid-October, all spots for the EF Tour to Rome and Pompeii were filled -- with 49 travelers -- an exclusive tour for Lufkin families. If you are interested in traveling and did not get the chance to sign up this year, stay tuned for perhaps more travel opportunities in 2021! I have to say that I am thrilled that we have had such an amazing response, and am even more delighted to let you know today that my EF Tours partner opened up more spots for our group -- until midnight of Sunday, March 31st, or until our tour is full. So as long as the enrollment site is online and running, you are all good to sign up your student -- and your family too!
A parent emailed me yesterday to make sure there was still space for her family of four, and she admitted that their weekend had just gotten too busy to log on. So I felt compelled to convey to you that 1) there is still room to join our travel group; and 2) I realize that life gets busy. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions about the trip or enrolling. For your convenience, I am including how to reserve your spots, below. There are two ways to enroll: Online using my tour website: www.eftours.com/2156063XK Over the phone: 1-800-665-5364. EF’s Traveler Support Team is open for enrollments and questions Monday-Friday from 9 AM – 5:30 PM. #lufkinartisgoingplaces Beth Barlow Art Teacher, NBCT Lufkin Road Middle School Art Club Advisor [email protected] Informational Meeting date just released for:
Thursday, March 21 at 5:30 in the media center. Please rsvp: https://rsvp.eftours.com/erg7afx I am coordinating a unique educational trip to Rome and Pompeii in April 2020. Our art club group will have the chance to experience amazing places that include the Museo Leonardo Da Vinci, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, Colosseum and the Roman Forum to name a few. This exciting 8-day travel opportunity is an extracurricular art enrichment experience; it is not a school or Wake County sponsored trip. Students who are currently in grades 6, 7, or are rising 6th-graders are eligible. Parents, the opportunity for your student to participate and travel with me and other educators is also extended to you! There is limited space available on this trip, so don’t miss out. I'd love to know you're interested! Buon Viaggio, Beth Barlow Art Teacher, NBCT Art Club Advisor [email protected] Over 50 Lufkin student submissions were entered this year in our PTA Reflections contest! The schoolwide contest, co-organized by Robin Kinney, LRMS PTA Reflections Chair, and LRMS Art Teacher Beth Barlow, was judged by three local professional artists on November 8th.
"I encourage all of my art students, art club members, and really any Lufkin student that is creative in areas of dance, music composition, videography, photography, literature and visual art, to submit entries to this annual contest. We are so fortunate to have a representative like Ms. Kinney from our PTA organization to sponsor the contest so that we may showcase all of our talented students," says Ms. Barlow. All contest participants are honored as each is invited to a Spring reception hosted by the PTA at Lufkin to recognize that they individually took the initiative to participate. On Thursday, March 30, Apex Friendship High School was abuzz with artistic, creative students and their families, teachers, administrators and representatives from the PTA Council viewing award-winning Reflections Contest entries.
Among the students enjoying the festivities was Lufkin student Sophia Hall, whose 3-d book sculpture placed 2nd in WCPSS Middle School category. Unfortunately, Ellie Beal and Chase Bonin, both award winners as well, could not attend. Pictured above is Ellie's artwork, a hymnal sculpted into an angel in response to the prompt, "What is My Story?" Chase placed again this year in the music composition category. Thank you Sophia, Ellie and Chase for representing Lufkin Road Middle School at the county level! Congratulations to six Lufkin art students who were selected to represent our school by exhibiting their artwork in the large statewide art competition held. Student art from schools from all over the state are competing in the annual art contest in the Kerr Scott Building at the NC State Fairgrounds from October 15-25, 2015! (Ceramic owl not pictured.)
